Penetration seals

Keeping fire and smoke in the fire compartment.

A penetration seal is the fire- and smoke-tight closure of a service penetration through a fire wall or ceiling. Its task: keep fire and smoke in the affected fire compartment. The fire resistance of the seal must match that of the surrounding wall — an F90 wall demands an S90 or R90 seal. Classified in accordance with the applicable proofs of usability (national: S30/S60/S90/S120 for cable, R for pipe) or applicable proof of usability (European: EI). Penetration seals are a mandatory element of every fire protection concept and are governed by the model line-installation directive (MLAR) and, in NRW, by the LAR NRW.

Variants

Which variant fits depends on the installation context, the existing building and the fire-protection concept — we advise per project.

Standard configuration

Cost-efficient solution for the most common installation contexts — tested systems from established manufacturers.

On request

Bespoke configuration

For non-standard sizes, installation contexts or higher requirements driven by the fire-protection concept or expert reports.

Existing buildings & retrofit

Recertification of existing components or phased replacement — coordinated around live operations.

All prices excl. VAT. Maintenance contracts are quoted on a per-unit basis.

Where we work

We cover every typical building type — from residential to industrial complexes with hundreds of components per site.

01

Residential

Apartment buildings, stairwells, transitions to boiler rooms and underground garages — usually with smoke-protection properties.

02

Industry & logistics

Separation of production, storage and administration plus protection of mechanically loaded plant.

03

Public buildings

Schools, hospitals and administrative buildings under NRW special-buildings regulations — often combined with hold-open systems.

  • applicable proof of usability

    National classification

    S30 / S60 / S90 / S120 for cable seals, R-classes for pipe seals — still relevant for existing stock.

  • applicable proof of usability

    European test method

Unified test conditions for the fire resistance of penetration seals across the EU.

  • applicable proof of usability

    European classification

Test result expressed as EI with minute rating — e.g. EI 90 for a 90-minute seal.

  • MLAR

    Model line-installation directive

Federal requirement for the fire protection requirements of line installations.

  • LAR NRW

    Line-installation directive NRW

Specifies MLAR for North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) — binding in NRW.

  • abZ / ETA

    Approval & manufacturer's instructions

Every system has an approval — installation must follow the manufacturer's instructions strictly, otherwise the approval is invalid.

From initial sealing to retrofit.

We plan, supply and install — manufacturer-independent and with complete documentation.

NRW-wide

Aachen to Bielefeld, Lower Rhine to Sauerland — survey usually within five working days.

Our own installers

No subcontractors. Warranty work and maintenance always trace back to the same people.

Maintenance contracts

We schedule appointments proactively. Inspection record for the fire authority comes with every visit.

  2. 02

    Retrofit in existing buildings

Compliant retrofit of open or defective penetrations — including during live operations.

  3. 03

    Re-occupancy

Adding cables or pipes through existing seals — only with approved systems.

  4. 04

    Defect remediation

Complete defects lists from fire inspections or expert reports in one engagement.

  5. 05

    Documentation

Declaration of conformity, photo record, as-built plan, seal numbering — digital and audit-proof.

  6. 06

    Maintenance & periodic inspection
