Fire Door Maintenance

Fire doors must be maintained — under DIN 31051 and DIN 14677 at least annually, by a specialist contractor, with complete documentation. This duty falls on the operator personally. A service contract with us fulfils this duty — with predictable cost and zero scheduling effort on your side.

↳ Service contract
↳ Legal basis

What the operator is required to do — and where it is set out.

The maintenance obligation for fire doors comes from several sources that, together, paint a clear picture: regular maintenance by a specialist contractor, documented in the inspection log, personal responsibility of the operator. DIN 31051 sets the principles of maintenance, DIN 14677 the qualified inspection of fire- and smoke-resisting closures. State building codes — in NRW the BauO NRW — define operator duties; the Workplace Safety Ordinance complements them for workplaces. Manufacturer specifications are the final, binding source: only their compliance preserves the approval of every individual door.

↳ Maintenance intervals

At least annually — sometimes more often.

The standard interval is annual. In high-frequency areas or after interventions, shorter intervals may be required.

Standard
annually

Mandatory interval for every fire door — even doors that are rarely operated. Required to keep the approval valid.

High-frequency
every 6 months

Hospitals, schools, retail and logistics — anywhere a door is operated hundreds of times daily.

Special service
after damage / intervention

Following collisions, repairs or structural changes around the door — separate assessment.

Visual check
ongoing (operator)

Between scheduled visits, the operator must perform visual checks if anything looks unusual.
